Distance Learning

The Volcanics eLearning Community is group of North Island schools that work together to offer wider more flexible opportunities in secondary education through online learning.  Coromandel Area School are one of over 30 Volcanics schools.

Volcanics schools provide programmes of learning to the network of schools.  These courses are delivered online and allow our students to enrol in online courses from other schools. These courses offer our students the opportunity to take subjects not offered at Coromandel Area School, or due to timetable clashes a subject can't be taken.

Te Kura is a state-funded distance education provider that offers a wide range of personalised learning programmes and courses up to NCEA Level 3, which are mostly delivered online. Students can enrol for a few credits in a specific course or for a full-time programme.

The Te Kura teachers are able to work online with students, one-to-one, and assess how they are doing, adapting the learning material accordingly.  The teachers will stay in close contact with students, including ongoing face-to-face meetings if they are needed.

Students may also get the opportunity to interact with other students at event days, subject days and advisories. They can also share and exchange ideas with their teachers and fellow students through discussions on My Te Kura, their online learning environment.

Most of the courses are online or include supplementary online resources.. Each online course includes interactive online modules featuring audio-visual resources, quizzes and other online activities to check students understanding and reinforce the learning.
