10PArts
This term we are collaborating with the senior PArts class to perform a class production of selected scenes from Revenge of the Amazons by W.Shakespeare and NZ playwright Jean Betts. A modern twist on Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. New Zealand writer Jean Betts adapted the plot and script, bringing through the themes of romantic love, gender and in a fun, comedic style. I like how the play uses comedy as a tool to highlight some of these issues.
Whereas traditional Shakspeare is daunting for many students, I think that the interweaving of the poetic Shakespearean language with modern day kiwi colloquialism is fun and makes the text more accessible to teenagers. The pantomime style will encourage students to have fun and make bold choices in their acting.
This production will be an assessment for 1.6 Perform an acting role in a scripted production (5 credits). They will be assessed on their performance of their role in the play. The performance date is yet to be confirmed but will most likely be held in Hauraki House Theatre in term 2.
Year 9 Art: Printmaking
Students are learning how to develop, cut and print a 3 colour relief print based on patterning. These patterns may include siapo, kowhaiwhai, celtic knots or other cultural patterns.
Year 10 Te Reo
Students have a class for 1 hour every week. Karakia, aspects of waiata, kiiwaha, grammar and tikanga are interwoven. This term our grammar focus is on being able to talk about their relationship to others in their family and peer group to link with the "Tuurangawaewae" focus in their wider learning context. There is a strong focus on oral language with students questioning and answering each other using the focus language. Kiiwaha are introduced: their usage and meaning explored, for example: the waiata "Toorea" and the kiiwaha "e pao toorea".
